Happily ever after. Or so you thought.
I believe it’s safe to say that no one ever thought they would file for divorce when they were tying the knot at the altar.
Divorce is a touchy subject. Most tend to feel shame around the word, as if they failed their marriage, their children, their family. People tend to hide the fact that they are thinking about divorce, letting the thought process become a heavy burden on their shoulders, generally a burden they carry alone. Let me be the first to say this – I am sorry. I am sorry that you are at a fork in the road on whether to file for divorce. I am sorry that your marriage did not work out the way you wanted it to. But, let me also say this – your life isn’t over. You want out of unhappiness, for whatever reason. Your reasons are yours, no explanation needed. You want to find joy, love, peace, etc. and that means starting anew. That is OK.
With that being said, if you feel like you want to file for divorce, only one person can make that decision. That person is you. Not your mom, not your friends, not your co-workers. Just you. It is normal to have tons of questions swimming in your head. You will want to know how the process begins. You will want to know how your spouse will be served. You will want to know how your family can survive the divorce proceeding. What about the home? The bank accounts? The children? You will have a lot of questions and that is totally normal.
